Be surprised at the Van Bommel van Dam museum! The Van Bommel van Dam museum is the museum for modern and contemporary art & design in North Limburg. Housed in a building that is an icon itself and where you can always be surprised by something new.
The building
Formerly a post office, now a museum. You can see this in the facade of the building: the structure of envelopes was the inspiration for the gold-coloured facade in the design by architectural firm BiermanHenket. A real eye-catcher at the Venlo city entrance. A large part of the museum is free of charge: an entrance ticket is only required for the exhibition spaces on the ground floor and 1st floor.
Maarten and Reina: a lifetime of collecting art
Maarten and Reina van Bommel - van Dam are the founders of the museum. With the donation of their extensive art collection, the municipality of Venlo founded the Van Bommel van Dam museum in 1971.
Maarten and Reina have a place of honour on floor -1 in the museum. Surrounded by art, in their own living room, they come to life as Pepper’s Ghost. In this Style Room, they tell you about their passion for art and life’s work: museum van Bommel van Dam.
In the old museum building, Maarten and Reina only had to go through one door from their home to get to the exhibition space in the museum. In the new museum, they have returned to the place where they loved to be most: next to the museum depot, close to their beloved collection.
