Where to start in this vibrant, cozy and large city with many shopping side streets and a large selection of women's, men's and children's clothing, shoes, bags, jewelry, lingerie, glasses, home accessories, lifestyle and local products?!
It is not easy to find your way around shopping in this day and age with so much choice in clothing and fashion trends, but it certainly does not have to be difficult to score a nice new outfit for yourself in Venlo!
In this blog I will take you through the city center of Venlo and teach you how to go into town well prepared and not come home with impulse purchases or bad purchases... but with clothes that suit you and that you feel good in!
But first... let me introduce myself! I am Melanie van Melick and I have one of the nicest professions that exist, because I am an Image Stylist and color consultant and my job is to give people a piece of themselves (back) through clothing, color and their own unique style!
If you like shopping, then it is of course nice to just ‘stroll’ down a street and see what kind of shops there are and to browse through the clothes racks… for hours… But if you prefer not to go into the city, it can be very frustrating to score a nice outfit anyway.
By means of good preparation I am going to make shopping easier, more relaxed and more fun for you… so let’s start with that.
Some tips from Melanie
- Before you go shopping, clear out your wardrobe, make a shopping list and ask yourself, for example, what you need to be able to combine your clothes, what is missing from your wardrobe and why you have never worn certain clothes before.
- Take pictures (in daylight) of your own clothes or bring the clothes with you so that you are sure that the new clothes match your own clothes
- Go into a store with confidence. Know what suits you, what colours you like and what you feel comfortable in. Ask yourself while trying on: Is this my style, how do I feel in these clothes, when am I going to wear them?
- Think of a route in advance. If you don't like shopping, it's easy to think in advance about which shops you would like to visit that day.
Today I'm going to be the first oneBianca Home and Fashion on the Kleine Beekstraat inside because this women's shop has a wide range of beautiful clothing items in neutral basic colours (such as beige, cream, white, brown and black). This way you can easily find a good basic such as trousers, jeans, blouse, blazer and/or shirt.
It is an atmospheric shop where you can also buy nice accessories for your home and you immediately feel the cosy atmosphere as soon as you enter! I buy a nice white flared trousers here, and then move on to the next shop!
Now that I have a pair of white pants (which you can combine very well with), I want to add a touch of color by means of a nice blouse. So I go with Carrièra Damesmode on the Klaasstraat inside. This large women's fashion store offers an extensive collection with many colors and also prints from many different, well-known brands.
The saleswoman kindly says that if I need help, I can approach her. I personally find this very pleasant, because then you don't feel embarrassed in a store and you can look around calmly and do your thing. Great! I see a nice blouse hanging with a Paisley print in cheerful spring colors and a jacket with shine, so I decide to take both with me!
Now that I know the color of the blouse, I'm going a few doors down Rémy schoenen inside because they have a unique, colorful collection with various shoe models, where there is a shoe for every style!
I always add one striking item to my outfit and in this case that is a bright pink boot! Of course you can also style it with a nice sneaker or a loafer.
I personally like unique jewelry and you will never see me without rings, earrings and or necklaces. Then I feel very 'bare'. I can often be found atBeads ’n Bobbles on the Jodenstraat, where they have a large and unique range of jewelry.
It is a very atmospheric, cozy and colorful store where you can browse through the beautiful range of jewelry and never leave empty-handed… even if it is just a set of earrings or a bracelet! For my new outfit, I choose a striking set that matches the colors of the shoes and the blouse.
Finally, I go a few doors down toIn The Mood inside because I can't go shopping in Venlo without having been in this stylish and atmospheric women's boutique! The coffee or tea is always ready and their women's collection is supplemented weekly with new items for every age, so you will always find something that suits you!
What is special about this store is that you will experience a very relaxed atmosphere while shopping and in between you can drink a nice cup of coffee on a lounge sofa, so that you can think carefully about the items that you are going to try on, want to try on and/or need! Exactly what I always like!
I show my outfit that I scored that day and end the day by reading a magazine and drinking a cup of coffee... because that is what you want on a shopping day!
Psssssttttt... It's no coincidence that I'm starting to shop for pants. In general, pants are a difficult item of clothing to choose, so once you've bought them, you can use them as a basic item and continue shopping with them.
You can wear different items on pants, from blouses to sweaters to T-shirts. By adding different tops and shoes, you can create a different look every time! Style this with accessories such as jewelry or a nice bag and you're all set!
