Het Romerhuis (1) is a real showstopper. The building owes its name to the influential Romer family and is the oldest building in Venlo after the town hall. The half-timbered facade of the rear house possibly dates back to the 14th century! Order a coffee with a delicious bonbon and look out over De Kwartelenmarkt (2), a historic square with a lunchroom, cocktail bar and restaurants that are all fantastic.
Stroll through the Jodenstraat and visit special shops such as Beads’nBobbles, Versierhoés van der Veer, Annamoon and KATT. Eethuis Tante Toer is a household name in Venlo, and Brownies&DownieS is also worth a visit. The Jodenstraat is also a paradise for children (and shopping parents) with ’t Holtschöpke and Pand 9.
Walk via the Oude Markt (3) with its cozy terraces along Theater De Maaspoort (4)through the Houtstraat towards the Markt. Admire the medievalStadhuis (5), an eye-catcher, in the middle of the city and one of the nicest catering squares in Venlo.
The Gasthuisstraat has many feats of arms. It is the most medieval street in the Netherlands, the most hospitable street in Venlo and only has independent entrepreneurs who have a variety of specialty shops. From Lekker Ruiken to Pinok, from LDHModa to Van Heyster Schoenmode, an English shop and even a natural butcher!
Walk along the beautiful, small St. Joriskerk (6) and cross (carefully!) the busiest cyclist intersection in Venlo at Café De Locomotief.
Parade over de Parade and let yourself be carried away by the sounds of the music paradise at the head of the Klaasstraat lies: Sounds. A coffee at Milk & Cookies or a beer at music café Take Five you can choose further; if you deviate from the Floddergats (7) in, with Venlo's well-hidden special catering establishments or do you walk further into the Klaasstraat, with all its special specialty shops?
What about Elleke, a trendy interior design store with Scandinavian influences, XIE Eyewear that will happily fit you with stylish and modern glasses and Boekhandel Koops, where you can lose yourself in the most beautiful books (and where the Toeristen Informatiepunt (8) hidden!). Fashion stores such as Carrièra, Rémy, Pure Boho and Appelhans are definitely not to be missed. The end of the Festina Lente shopping route does not mean the end of your unforgettable day in Venlo.
