10 Sweet tips in Venlo

Here it is literally a sweet invasion; you are welcomed hospitably and often get something extra tasty with your 'teske' coffee, such as a liqueur with whipped cream. There is so much to choose from... That's why we have listed all the goodies for you!

1. Pastries and more

At Banketbakkerij Lamers op de Parade, delicious Limburg pies, cakes and pastries have been baked since 1888… and much more! My favorite: their ‘Truffelpunt’ – deliciously pure. Lamers is not only a household name in Venlo because everything is so delicious, but also because they are so creative! Just take a good look at the decorated ‘Petit Fours’ or the chocolate version of the Venlose Köpkes. Buy one and look for your variation at the fence in the Keizerstraatje – almost a shame to eat…

Even more Venlo patisserie expertise can be found at Broekmans - with a delicious and extensive range. In Venlo you can even go to 2 locations! Broekmans’ good taste is not only known here… they can now also be found elsewhere in Limburg and Brabant.

2. Chocolate

For instant happiness, just add chocolate! Goed nieuws - dit instant geluk kun je op heel veel plekken in Venlo vinden! Zoals in het op één na oudste huis in Venlo, het Romerhuis. Hier kun je genieten van chocolademelk zoals het hoort – met on-the-spot gesmolten chocolade. Lekker met daarbij een heerlijk bonbonnetje – uit hun vitrine vol keus!

Maar er is meer… Ga je boodschappen doen? Proef de befaamde bonbons van Visser uit Schimmert. Lekker en een lust voor het oog! Ook vind je in de stad Rousseau; met chocolade gemaakt volgens een geheim Sittardse familierecept.Iets verderop aan de Maas vind je de Chocoladefabriek, in een historisch pand dat 150 jaar geleden al dezelfde bestemming had! Hier wordt recent weer met passie ambachtelijke chocolade gemaakt. Psst… en ijs!

3. Desserts

Can't you live without dessert? Then this is a great way to end your night out!

Tiramisu: a must-eat on the Venlo dessert menu! You can find this delicacy at Nena Pizza, Lanterna and La Trattoria by Old Dutch. Bij de Buren in Keizerstraat they even have a Kinderbueno variant!

Frikandel Speciaal ?! Chez L'Hetre, known for its excellent cuisine, has given a special and creative twist to the frikandel speciaal. I still have to try it and I'm very curious... This luxurious sweet variant is made of chocolate, fruit curry and champagne onions!

Trendy desserts @Grenswerk Café. S'mores & Ice, Bibberballen, Warme Oreo Brownie. Doesn't this sound fantastic?! My favorite, the Karamel Zeezout Cheesecake. Yum Yum! And their Tiramisu... is vegan!

Most choice - 25x sweet at Mout! Yes, you read that right! If I counted correctly, Mout has 25 sweets on the menu! Think of Churros, Carrotcake, Meringue Tartlets, Panna Cotta or a Hot Fudge Sundae… Almost every kitchen at Mout has something sweet to lick your fingers off.

4. Sweets & coffee

How nice is it to eat something sweet with your cup of coffee? Or even a sweet coffee combination? These are my favorite coffee hotspots, which also have something for everyone for breakfast, lunch and afternoon drinks.

5.Waffles

Freshly baked waffles are the best! Preferably with cherries, whipped cream and/or ice cream. Or plain, just like that! For example, take a delicious warm waffle with you after shopping at garden centre Leurs. Do you have a royal taste? Then walk past Lamers - they say that even Princess Beatrix is ​​a fan of their famous waffles!

6. Macarons

I don't like Paris for a franc because Venlo is my home... You don't have to go to France for this French specialty - you can find them here too! My tip: Ice and Macaron Chef. Here the macarons are not petit but XL! These Premium macarons come in all kinds of flavors. My favorites: the 'Salted Caramel' and 'Strawberry Cheesecake'!

7. Brownies

For Brownies you go to Brownies&downieS! After your visit you will leave the restaurant with a smile because of the delicious food and the sweet staff. Will you go for a Blondie or a Brownie? Plenty of flavors! M&M's, Fudge sea salt, Oreo, Mon-Chou, Speculoos, Stroopwafel and White chocolate (my favorite).

8. Pancakes and such

With the kids, or just with the “adults” eating pancakes? You can have savoury or sweet ones of course! Which pancake will you choose?

Traditional Pancakes: you can go for beautiful walks around Venlo - with a tip: a delicious “pakkoek” afterwards! You can do this at Jagersrust, THE pancake restaurant of Venlo and the surrounding area, which is located next to the ‘Smokkelpad’. Or at my favourite, Oelespot, located in the (wine) bottling plant of the former Trappist abbey on the Ulingsheide. Here I prefer to eat the 50/50 sweet and savoury pancake ‘Tara’, so you don’t have to choose!

American Pancakes: nice and fluffy and thick? At Mocca Coffee Company they have many more delicious things besides coffee, such as an ‘All-Day-Breakfast’ with pancakes! I LIKE!

Poffertjes: I heard that you can make your minis very happy with this mini pancake at Café Restaurant Central. But I think you can also order them yourself!

French toast: “Wentel 'm even” - Not really a pancake, but just as tasty in my opinion! You can find this classic delicacy at MOUT, Bik Mik and Mocca Coffee Company, among others.

9. Ice

IJS is literally fanatic at IJSCO Fantastico in Venlo. Can be found in two places; in the warmer months on the Maasboulevard, with a beautiful view of the Venlo skyline, and all year round at their ‘new’ but authentic location ‘Ut Tankstation’ at the Julianapark. A true asset to the Venlo Museum Quarter! Bueno and cookies are my favorite flavors... what do you choose?

10. Sweets

Do you have a Candy Crush? The real sweet tooth knows that there is more to Venlo than just the Jamin. Like Candy Shop Candy Shop Truuske: authentic, small and cozy! Go back in time and walk along the rows of candy jars the old-fashioned way and put together your own candy bag! But also modern, with an extensive range of sugar- and gluten-free, and even organic candy!

Are you looking for a real spectacle? Then walk into the 2 Brüder. On the 1st floor you will find a 'Schlaraffenland für alle Naschkatzen'. This bizarrely large candy paradise has, among other things, gigantic lollipops, multi-packs and candy that our eastern neighbors are happy to cross the border for!
